Long before Goolrick's became a soda fountain, this corner was already part of Fredericksburg's story.
Over the centuries it has survived fires, floods, renovations, changing ownership, and generations of change.
When restoration began, the goal wasn't simply to renovate a building.
It was to carefully uncover and preserve over two centuries of history while preparing Goolrick's for generations to come.

A New Chapter Begins
In May 2022, Goolrick's entered a new era when ownership of the historic building was transferred to Jarrell Properties. With a commitment to preserving one of Fredericksburg's most cherished landmarks, the goal wasn't simply to renovate the space, it was to honor more than 150 years of history while ensuring Goolrick's could continue serving the community for generations to come.
History Unearthed
As renovation work got underway, every layer of the building revealed another piece of Goolrick's remarkable story. During excavation and restoration, the team uncovered historic flooring, long-hidden architectural details, vintage artifacts, and evidence of previous renovations dating back decades. Each discovery helped guide the restoration, ensuring the building's history wasn't erased, it was celebrated and thoughtfully preserved.
Goolrick's Brought Back to Life
Today, Goolrick's once again reflects the timeless soda fountain generations have known and loved. From the restored lunch counter and historic lighting to carefully recreated finishes and nostalgic details, every decision balanced authenticity with modern craftsmanship. The result is more than a beautifully restored building, it's the return of a Fredericksburg tradition where old memories are celebrated and new ones are made
every day.
